Imam W. Deen Mohammed, an international spokesman for American Muslims, will speak here Sunday on an Islamic program to promote peace. The address is scheduled for noon at the Palladium, 2900 Liberty Heights Ave. There is no charge.

The imam, based in Chicago, recently returned from Saudi Arabia, where he represented American Muslims at an Islamic conference on Persian Gulf issues.

The imam also will speak at the Palladium tomorrow evening at a dinner sponsored by the Islamic Community Appreciation Committee, an ad hoc committee of area Muslims. The 7 p.m. dinner is to honor local officials for their work on behalf of human rights.

Mayor Kurt L. Schmoke, Rep. Kweisi Mfume, D-7th, City Councilman Lawrence Bell 3rd, D-4th, Baltimore Circuit Court Judge Paul Smith and other civic and public officials are expected to attend.

Among the imam's honors are the Walter Reuther Humanitarian Award and the Four Freedoms Award, whose recipients have included John F. Kennedy, Eleanor Roosevelt and Ralph Bunche.

In 1988, he was the Muslim representative at the World Parliament of Religious Leaders' meeting on the environment, held in Oxford, England.
