Opening Day 1992

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Opening Day, 1992, and you are there.

And so, perhaps, are the Cleveland Indians.

Cleveland is a strong possibility to be the visiting team in the first regular-season game at the Baltimore Orioles' new Camden Yards ballpark, which is expected to open next year. An Orioles-Indians opener, tentatively scheduled for Monday, April 6, is part of a proposed American League schedule that was discussed at a meeting of AL team executives in Chicago yesterday.

At least one other schedule is under consideration, but the chances for an Orioles-Indians matchup to open the new ballpark are "about 90 percent," said Orioles spokesman Rick Vaughn, who said the AL schedule should be made final in June.

No word yet on another source of Opening Day intrigue: Who will lead off?
