A bail review hearing was set today for a handyman charged with the fatal stabbing yesterday of a Govans woman in her home.

James E. Davis, 39, of the 4200 block of Oakford Ave. in northwest Baltimore, being held at the Northwestern District police station on charges of first-degree murder in the death of Lucy Martin McIntyre, 63, of the 500 block of Richwood Ave.

Davis also is charged with robbery with a deadly weapon and possession of a deadly weapon.

Police said Davis was McIntyre's handyman and did repair work around her home. Investigators believe Davis was under the influence of drugs when he visited Tuesday night to discuss a repair job.

The victim's body was found in her kitchen shortly before 5 a.m., after police received a telephone tip. Two knives believed used in the attack have been recovered.

The victim was described by friends and neighbors as friendly and involved in her community. She was a retired Social Security Administration employee who reared six grown children with her husband. The couple was divorced.
