Robert Kolodziejski, a member of the town's Planning and Zoning Commission, has announced that he will run as a write-in candidate for council in the May 21 election.

Kolodziejski, 38, a supervisor at Westinghouse Electric Corp. in Linthicum, Anne Arundel County, will be challenging Councilman John A. Riley and political newcomer Joseph S.Gayer.

The two previously were unchallenged for the two seats.

"I have nothing against the incumbent, but let's give it back to the peopleand let them decide who they want to oversee government of the town," said Kolodziejski, adding he was encouraged to join the race after the filing deadline by friends, family members and town officials.

Kolodziejski said his first priority is to establish name recognition. He said he plans to campaign door-to-door, handing out fliers,

possibly with a name card attached.

"It will make it as easy as possible for the people who want to make a choice," he said. "They can bring the card with them to vote.

"I checked and found out that the spelling doesn't have to be exact. I don't think there's anybody else with a name like mine."

The Buena Vista subdivision resident said managing growth is among his top concerns. He has served on the planning board for about one year.

"So much has happened in the lastyear I was on the commission in the growth of the town and county," he said. "I want to watch exactly how the growth does occur."

Mayor Earl A. J. "Tim" Warehime is running unopposed for another term. The mayor is paid $1,200 annually; council members, $500.

The town's1,148 voters cast their ballots from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, at Town Hall, 3208 York St.
