THE BALTIMORE SUN

Two South Carolina men were arrested yesterday on drug charges after Maryland state troopers turned up more than 4 pounds of cocaine in a car during a traffic stop, state police said.

Troopers had stopped a car driven by Joseph Campbell, 60, of Cheraw, S.C., at 11:17 a.m. for a traffic violation on Interstate 95 between Elkton and North East.

After Mr. Campbell signed a consent form to permit a search of the vehicle, troopers found a 4-pound, 6-ounce bag of cocaine under the driver's seat, police said.

Mr. Campbell and passenger Tony Delano Davis, 47, also of Cheraw, were arrested and subsequently charged with one count each of smuggling cocaine, possession with the intent to distribute and possession.

Troopers also seized the pair's 1986 Mercury Grand Prix and $921.

Both men were being held at the Cecil County Detention Center in Elkton pending a bail hearing.
