THE BALTIMORE SUN

Anne Arundel Community College guard-forward Wardell Chambers has signed a letter of intent and accepted a basketball scholarship to playat Division II Bloomsburg State College (Pa.), Pioneers coach Mark Amatucci announced yesterday.

Chambers, a Severna Park High school graduate, averaged 18 points per game this past season for the 29-5 Division II region runner-up Pioneers. During his freshman season, he averaged 19 points for a team that went 23-11.

"I chose Bloomsburg because of academics first, because I will major in business, and people around here told me that they have a realgood business school," said the 6-foot-3 Chambers.

"Coach Amatucci also told me that it would be a good place for me to play."

Amatucci has said before that Chambers "could definitely play Division I or Division II basketball," and yesterday noted that his two-year standout is getting into one of the top Division II programs in the East.

Bloomsburg State hasn't had a losing season in 25 years and won 19 games this past season.

"Hopefully I can come in there and we go over the 20-win mark and go far into the playoffs," said Chambers.
