TOUCHING BASES

THE BALTIMORE EVENING SUN

* DYNASTY? Oakland lost its fifth straight game. Fittingly, Joe Klink got the loss.

* DAY OF FIRSTS: On this day in 1952, Hoyt Wilhelm won his first big-league game (and hit his only homer -- in his first major-league at-bat) and on April 23, 1954, Hank Aaron hit the first of his record 755 home runs.

* KILL THE UMP: Umpire Larry McCoy, standing between the mound and second base, fractured his right wrist when he was hit by a line drive in the Tigers-Yankees game. He returned after two innings.
