CHICAGO -- It may be a while before he actually plays, but Bo Jackson will be a fixture at Comiskey Park.

"He's going to rehab here when the Sox are in town," team physician James Boscardin said yesterday.

Boscardin said the Chicago White Sox will take another X-ray of Jackson's injured hip in about 10 days.

"He's doing fine," Boscardin reported.

One of sports' most high-profile athletes took the low-key route in his first appearance with the White Sox. His locker was next to Frank Thomas, his former football teammate at Auburn.

Jackson chatted with new teammate Alex Fernandez, and Ozzie Guillen pulled on his ears by way of giving him a Chicago welcome.

Jackson, though, didn't talk to the press, and quickly escaped to the privacy of the trainers' room. He was scheduled to hold a news conference today.

"I want the focus to be on the opening of Comiskey," said Jackson, who wore a White Sox uniform and received a loud ovation during pregame introductions.

Jackson ran onto the field on his bad hip, but in the clubhouse he hobbled on crutches.
