Alice Mary Maher Water agency secretary

THE BALTIMORE SUN

A Mass of Christian burial for Alice Mary Maher, a retired secretary in the Baltimore Bureau of Water Supply who was active in church groups, will be offered at 9:30 a.m. Monday at St. Dominic's Roman Catholic Church.

Miss Maher, who was 85, died Wednesday of heart failure at her home in Hamilton.

She retired about 20 years ago after working for the water department for 46 years.

Born in Baltimore, she was educated at St. Anne's School and worked in her youth in her parents' tobacco and confectionery store at Greenmount Avenue and Biddle Street. The store was a meeting place for area residents and a mailing address for recent immigrants from Ireland.

A member of St. Dominic's Church since 1947, she belonged to the Ladies of Charity there and was a member of the Rosary Confraternity and the Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites.

She is survived by a niece, Roseann Maher Curran of Cockeysville; a nephew, Edward Charles Maher of Baltimore; three grandnephews; and two grandnieces.

The family suggested contributions to the American Heart Association.
