Carroll County's Board of Education honored several teachers and staff for their achievements at last Wednesday's monthly meeting:

* Janice Byrd and Lisa Schrodel, home economics teachers at Sykesville Middle, for presenting "The Mission Possible" at the Home Economics Regional Teacher meetings March 5 and March 23. The presentation was aninteractive session exploring the mission statement of the new Conceptual Guide Framework for Home Economics Curriculum in Maryland.

* Peter Litchka, social studies teacher at North Carroll High, for receiving a first-place award from the Council on Economic Education for "Toxic Waste in Grand Banks," an economics lesson he developed.This is the second consecutive year Litchka has won the award.

* Ripsba Arnett, first-grade teacher at Mount Airy Elementary; Lisa Duvall, first-grade teacher at Manchester Elementary; Lauren Groves, first-grade teacher at Robert Moton Elementary; Michele Amrhein, first-grade teacher at Charles Carroll Elementary; Linda Boyd, supervisor ofelementary schools; and Donald Vetter, supervisor of social studies received a special curriculum award from the Council on Economic Education for the new grade one economics unit.

* Aurora Pagulayan, extended enrichment program resource teacher, for presenting a program about staff development and the resource role of a teacher at the Maryland Council of Staff Developers Annual Conference.

* Larry Myers, local weather observer, for offering weather advice free of charge to the county and helping the staff determine whether to cancel or delay the opening of school.

* Christopher B. Carter, assistant in transportation, for coordinating and instructing a three-day Maryland State Department of Education certification workshop for driver trainers.
