COLLEGE PARK -- A Washington burglar picked the wrong dorm suite to rob. It was occupied by Maryland football players.

Mark Garnsey, a campus policeman, arrested Adrian C. Williams, a 37-year-old Washington man, Monday about 7 a.m. after five Terp football players helped nail the burglar in their Kent Hall suite.

"I heard someone playing with my door," offensive tackle Tony Strano told The Diamondback, Maryland's student newspaper. "He turned the light on and I got up. I saw this guy walking out and slammed the door and wouldn't let him out."

Offensive guard Ron Staffileno was awakened by Strano's shouts. He saw that Strano had the man cornered in the living room.

"I had him in a headlock," said wide receiver David Terranova. "I got to cuff him."

Garnsey said Williams tried to flee and that arresting him would have been difficult without the players' help.

"I finally got him to the ground and he wouldn't take his hands out," Garnsey said. "Then I got his hands out with two big guys helping. They cuffed him."

Williams had about 50 keys with him, including at least six sets of residence hall keys, all of which had been reported stolen. Police said he was suspected in a string of area burglaries.

"He broke into the wrong suite," Strano said.
