Services for the Rev. Richard H. Ogle IV, retired pastor of the Perkins Square Baptist Church, will be held at 11 a.m. today at the church at 2500 Edmondson Ave.

Mr. Ogle, who was 48 and lived on Edmondson Avenue, died Friday at St. Agnes Hospital after a long illness.

He retired in December after serving as pastor of the church for 18 years. He became associate pastor of the church of which he had been a member in the late 1960s.

Born in Baltimore, he was a graduate of the Carver Vocational-Technical High School and attended the Center of Truth School of Religion and Howard University.

Before becoming associate pastor at Perkins Square, he had worked in the dietary department at University Hospital and was pastor of the House of Jacob Holiness Church on the Eastern Shore during the 1960s.

A tenor, he also played the piano and organ.

He was a former second vice president of the Baptist Ministers Conference, a former recording secretary of the United Missionary Convention of Maryland and a member of the Baltimore Clergy in Action. He had been a volunteer chaplain at the House of Correction. He welcomed the establishment of Narcotics Anonymous, Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon groups at his church and a year ago established a soup kitchen that serves lunch on Wednesdays.

His survivors include his mother, Constance Ogle of Baltimore; a sister, Delores Lincoln of Middle River; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
