Services for Robert L. Walter, a retired engineering technician, will be at 1 p.m. today at the McCully Funeral Home, 237 E. Patapsco Ave.

Mr. Walter, a resident of Venice, Fla., for the past 4 1/2 years, died Wednesday at Venice Hospital after a long illness. He was 72.

Born and raised in Baltimore, he was a graduate of Southern High School. He later attended the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers trade school. Mr. Walter held an electrical contractor's license for Anne Arundel County.

Mr. Walter, who was employed at the U.S. Coast Guard Yard in Curtis Bay for 36 years, retired in 1974 and moved to Bethany Beach, Del., where he built a home for his family.

Mr. Walter was a member of Elks Lodge No. 1854; IBEW Local 1383, where he served as secretary for 30 years; and the U.S. Coast Guard Yard Retirees Association. He also served as president of the U.S. Coast Guard Yard Credit Union for 10 years.

Mr. Walter was fond of cooking and gardening.

He is survived by his wife of 21 years, the former Geraldine M. Bubb; a daughter, Anita D. Summers; a son, Donald L. Walter of Baltimore; a stepson, Bruce Skrenczuk, also of Baltimore; two sisters, Edna Bunn of Bethany Beach and Rita Trogler of Baltimore; three brothers, Maurice, Samuel and William Walter, all of Baltimore; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
