Hewas nominated by the state education department. The award recognizes teachers for developing innovative ways to teach agriscience, whichincludes biology, environmental science, engineering and agribusiness.

Education: Graduate of North Carroll High School; degrees in education and agriculture from the University of Maryland; enrolled in continuing education classes at Western Maryland College

Family: Wife: Lila. Children: Christopher, 12, and Chip, 4.

Activities/hobbies: Operates a grain and produce farm and raises beef cattle and hogs. Active in the Carrollton 4-H Club and supervises FFA club at North Carroll High.

Accomplishments: Has taught at North Carroll High for 15 years. Was named"Producer of the Year" for 1991 by the Maryland Pork Producers Association.

Award details: Two applicants from each state will be chosen to go on to national competition. From this group, four finalists from across the country will be chosen in August and will compete in Kansas City, Mo., for the title of "Agriscience Teacher of the Year."
