YOU CAN HELP GIRL WITH CANCER

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Moved by the plight of Carol Linton, the 2-year-old Glen Burnie girl suffering from a rare form of cancer, Allstate Insurance Co. is having a fund-raiser for her next Saturday.

The Glen Burnie office is sponsoring a car wash at its headquarters at 500 Crain Highway. Proceeds will be donated to Ken and Cheryl Linton, who are struggling to pay their daughter's medical bills.

The Lintons have no medical insurance to cover the treatment Carol needs to battle neuroblastoma, a tumor of the nerve cells. The toddler came down with a high fever in January and soon became anemic, with a dropping blood count.

When she was taken to Johns Hopkins University Hospital in Baltimore last month, specialists discovered the cancer had spread from her abdomen to the orbit of her right eye.

Carol is receiving chemotherapy to fight the cancer. After a year of treatments, she will receive a bone marrow transplant. Healthy cells in her bone marrow will be removed, frozen and then transplanted backafter the cancerous cells are destroyed.

Although the 2-year-old has a good chance of survival, her parents couldn't afford to buy medical insurance.

Neither receives medical coverage at work, and theLintons have four children.

The Glen Burnie office of Allstate Insurance decided to donate proceeds from the car wash after reading about Carol's story in the Anne Arundel County Sun.

The car wash starts at 8 a.m. and will continue for most of the day, said Lola Thorpe, a claims administrator with Allstate Insurance.

The Ferndale Fire Co., where both of the Lintons serve as volunteer firefighters, also has arranged for a fund through Maryland National Bank.

Anyone wishing to donate money to help pay for Carol's medical bills can send checks to Maryland National Bank branches in her name.
