No. 5 Severn edges No. 2 Boys' Latin

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Severn goalie Court Durling made 17 saves yesterday agains Boys' Latin, but the final one was the biggest.

Durling stopped Gene Lower from the edge of the crease with 32 seconds remaining to preserve fifth-ranked Severn's 7-6 victory over second-ranked Boys' Latin in a Maryland Scholastic Association A Conference Division II lacrosse game.

Boys' Latin (7-1, 2-1), which rallied from a four-goal, fourth-quarter deficit, got the ball to Lower to start the final play. He raced behind the goal, came out to the right, beat a defenseman and fired a high shot that Durling caught.

"I was just concentrating on his stick," said Durling. "When he's got his stick high in the air, he's not going to shoot low."

This stopped the Boys' Latin comeback and capped a second-half surge by Severn (12-2, 1-2). The Admirals trailed 3-1 at halftime but scored six consecutive goals in the second half to take control.
