Richard Cleaver's shrines evoke many styles

THE BALTIMORE EVENING SUN

The shrines Richard Cleaver constructs are so heavily encrusted with decorative elements that you get the feeling he worships the materials used as much as whatever is actually evoked by his many references to religious iconography. In Cleaver's exhibit at the Knight Gomez Gallery, he borrows freely from Renaissance and Baroque decorative styles without ever being beholden to them.

Gomez Gallery, 836 Leadenhall St., through April 20. Call : 752-2080.
