NBA -- Fined Benoit Benjamin of the Seattle SuperSonics $1,500 for making an obscene gesture last week to the crowd at the Los Angeles Arena.

College

Cal-Irvine -- Named Rod Baker, assistant coach at Seton Hall, head basketball coach.

Colorado State -- Named Stew Morrill, formerly of Montana, head basketball coach.

Radford -- Named Ron Bradley, former Maryland assistant, head basketball coach.

Texas Tech -- Named James Dickey head basketball coach. Was assistant coach.

Washington -- T Steve Emtman was charged in Seattle Municipal Court with hit and run driving.

Football

New York Jets -- Agreed to contract terms with RB Johnny Hector and QB Turk Schonert.

Hockey

NHL -- Fined St. Louis Blues general manager Ron Caron $1,000, banned him from the press box for rest of playoff series and fined team $10,000 for a shouting and shoving match with Detroit Red Wings G Glen Hanlon in the press box after Game 2. Fined Hanlon $100.

Pittsburgh Penguins -- Announced that defenseman Paul Coffey has a scratched cornea and swelling around his left eye and will miss the fifth game of the Patrick Division playoff series tonight against New Jersey.
