County police have arrested two men in connection with a shooting Sunday that seriously injured a Silver Spring man during an attempted robbery, a police spokesman said.
Sarkis M. Garabitian, 43, was shot once in the abdomen shortly before 10 p.m. while riding in a car inthe 9800 block of Gorman Road in Columbia, said Sgt. Gary L. Gardner.
Garabitian told police the two men were acquaintances who had been riding with him in the car when they demanded that he turn over hismoney, Gardner said. When he refused to hand it over, he was shot, Garabitian told police.
After the shooting, police said, Garabitianjumped out of the car and fled to a nearby home, where he called formedical help. The two men drove away, he told police.
Police arrested Michael J. Feldman, 18, of Silver Spring, at his home at 11:30 p.m. Monday. Earlier in the day, Peter Arslanian, 20, of Wheaton, turned himself in to the Wheaton police station in Montgomery County.
Both men have been charged with assault with intent to murder and assault with intent to rob, police said. Garabitian was listed in serious but stable condition Tuesday at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center at University Hospital in Baltimore.
Arslanian was being held yesterday at the Howard County Detention Center on $10,000 bond. Feldman was released on unspecified bond.
GAS STATION ROBBED BY MASKED BANDIT
A man wearing a hockey mask robbed an estimated $1,300 from an Ellicott City gas station Saturday after holding a clerk at gunpoint, county police said.
The clerk reported that she had just left the restroom of the St. John's Amoco station, in the 9100 block U.S. 40, shortly before 10:30 p.m. when the man grabbed her from behind, police said.
The cashier said he held a gun to her head and forced her toopen the station's office door, police said. Once inside, the gunmanremoved the cash from the register.
Police said the man wore a white hockey mask and appeared to be armed with a black semiautomatic handgun. He left the scene on foot, police said.
The cashier was not injured and was able to provide a partial description of the man to police.
MAN HURT IN FALL INTO SAVAGE RIVER
A Savage man sufferedpossible neck and spinal injuries Saturday after a fall into the Savage River, county rescue workers said.
Injured was Michael Edward Grafton, 27, of the 8000 block of Woodward Street, who had fallen into the rapids shortly before 5 p.m., rescue workers said. Grafton was treated at the Maryland Shock Trauma Center at University Hospital inBaltimore and was released on Monday.
Rescue workers said Graftoncomplained of paralysis during medical treatment at the scene. County police are investigating the incident.
