A Catholic prayer service will take place for Annapolis resident James John Garrity Sr. at 1 p.m. today at Hardesty Funeral Home in Annapolis.

Mr. Garrity, 70, died of cancer April 5 at Anne Arundel Medical Center.

An Annapolis resident since 1956, he was employed by the Civil Service at Fort Meade for 34 years.

Mr. Garrity was a World War II Army veteran and a member of the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by a son, John J. Garrity Jr. of Centerville, Va., and a grandchild.

RUTH M. DUDDING BOOKKEEPER, 79

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for West River resident Ruth Marie Dudding at 10 a.m. April12 at Our Lady of Sorrows Roman Catholic Church in Ownesville.

She was a resident of West River since 1974.

Mrs. Dudding worked as a bookkeeper with D & D Tire Service in Bladensburg for 20 years until her retirement in 1070.

She enjoyed traveling and singing.

Her husband, Harvey Jacob, preceded her in death in 1962.

She is survived by a daughter, Dana Donell Frank of West River; a son, Richard Aubrey Dudding of Plant City, Fla.; five grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

MANUEL GONSALVES FOREMAN, 88

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Manuel V. Gonsalves April 11 at St. Francis Catholic Church in East Providence, R.I.

Mr. Gonsalves, 88, died of cancer and heart failure April 6 in Severna Park.

A lifetime resident of East Providence, he came to Severna Park tolive with his son in 1990.

He was retired as a foreman for Goodyear Footwear in Providence, R.I., after 40 years of service. He also served in the Rhode Island National Guard.

Mr. Gonsalves was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church; Holy Trinity Council 3413 in Severna Park; Knights of Columbus; and Admiral William S. Benson Assembly of Annapolis.

His other interests included gardening and sports.

His wife, Teresa Murray Gonsalves, preceded him in death in 1966.

He is survived by a son, Donald F. Gonsalves of Severna Park; four sisters, Maria Silva and Rose Travers, both of Florida, and Laura Lewis and Angelina Xavier, both of East Providence; three brothers, Anthony Gonsalves and Frank Gonsalves, both of East Providence, and Joseph Gonsalves of Florida; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

NORMAN POEHLMAN SR. BOILERMAKER, 82

Funeral services took place for Hanover resident Norman D. Poehlman Sr. April 8 at Kirkley Funeral Home.

Mr. Poehlman, 82, died of pneumonia at Howard County General Hospital.

A county resident for 52 years, he was employed as a boilermaker with Maryland Drydock.

His hobbies included travel, camping, family activities, Boy Scouts, and watching television.

Hiswife, Pauline L. Poehlman, preceded him in death.

He is survived by a daughter, Ruth Anna Poehlman of Hanover; two sons, Norman D. Poehlman II of Hanover and David H. Poehlman of Baltimore; a brother, Edmund Poehlman of Baltimore; and six grandchildren.

WILLIAM J. SCALLYPASTOR, 77

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Severna Park resident William Joseph Scally at 11 a.m. today at St. John the Evangelist Church.

The Rev. Scally, 77, died of heart failure April 7 in Severna Park.

He was a graduate of St. Charles College in Baltimore, St. Mary's Seminary in Baltimore and Catholic University in Washington, D.C.

He served at St. Brigid Church in Baltimore,was a pastor at St. Mary's in Pylesville, Our Lady of Perpetual Helpin Woodlawn, then St. Luke's in Edgemere. He retired seven years ago.

The Rev. Scally was a member of Opus Dei and Knights of Columbusin Woodlawn.

His other interests included sailing and swimming.

He is survived by two sisters, Agnes Green and Genevieve Staines, both of Severna Park; a brother, John F. Scally of Baltimore; and several nieces and nephews.

MARY E. HOLLER HOMEMAKER, 84

Services will take place for Glen Burnie resident Mary E. Holler at 10 a.m. today at Singleton Funeral Home.

Mrs. Holler, 84, died of cancer April 6 at her home.

A resident of Glen Burnie for 37 years, she was a graduate of St. Francis Xavier Boarding School for the Deaf.

Her hobbies included sewing, painting and craftwork.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Loy W. Holler; three daughters, Ruth Rogers ofGlen Burnie, Thelma Marie Dernoga of Ellicott City, and Mary Ellen McKerrell of Glen Burnie; a son, John L. Holler of Glen Burnie; three sisters, Jane DeVowghn of Virginia, Veronica Reinsfelder and Marie Whiting, both of Baltimore; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

WILHELMINA PAYNE HOMEMAKER, 91

A Mass of Christian Burial wascelebrated for Wilhelmina Anna Kierchner Payne April 9 at St. Bernadette's Catholic Church.

Mrs. Payne, 91, died of natural causes April 4 at Peninsula General Hospital.

A homemaker, she was a member of St. Francis DeSales in Salisbury, and St. Jerome's.

Her interests centered around her family.

Her husband, George J.C. Payne, preceded her in death.

She is survived by five daughters, Marie Floydof Pasadena, Anna Roper of Pasadena, Texas, Elizabeth Hell of Sun Rise, Fla., Marge Atkinson of Millersville, and Doris Mary Payne of Mardela Springs; seven sons, Harry Payne of Pasadena, Joseph Payne of Morrell Park, John Payne of Sykesville, Thomas Payne of Baltimore, Bernard Payne of Mount Airy, Francis Payne of Mardela Springs and George Payne of Mardela Springs; a sister, Theresa Snowden of Pasadena; 34 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

BILLY J. JACKSON CARPET INSTALLER, 45

Services will take place for Glen Burnie residentBilly Joe Jackson at 1 p.m. April 11 at Singleton Funeral Home.

Mr. Jackson, 45, died April 7 at his home.

He was employed as a carpet installer for Dunn Floor Covering for 22 years. He also served inthe U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Jackson was a member ofMaryland Saltwater Sports Fishermen.

His hobbies included readingand fishing.

He is survived by a son, William Allan Jackson of Glen Burnie; and three sisters, Judy Jackson, Nancy Jackson and Betty Jackson, all of North Carolina.
