The county Department of Public Works is offering residents the opportunity to get rid of hazardous household products from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 13 at two locations.

The sixth annual Hazardous Waste Drop-off Day will be conducted at the Department of Public Works, 1 Harry Truman Parkway (off Riva Road in Annapolis) and at the Fire Department Headquarters on Route 3 in Millersville.

Residents are encouraged to dispose of hazardous household waste by bringing it -- in original containers, if possible -- to one of the two sites. Plan to spend 10 to 15 minutes at the drop-off location,as there may be a line.

Some guidelines to follow concerning hazardous waste are:

* The best thing you can do with hazardous products is to fully use them for their intended purpose or give them to someone who can use them.

* Used motor oil and antifreeze can be recycled at several locations and should not be brought to the disposal site. Call 222-6103 for recycling information.

* Latex (water-based) paint is not toxic and should not be brought to the disposal site.To dispose of latex paint, completely and thoroughly dry any residue, and throw away the container.
