George Athas, a retired restaurant owner who was day manager of nightclubs or supper clubs where his son was managing partner, died Sunday at St. Joseph Hospital after a stroke during midnight Easter services.

He was 100 and lived on Galewood Road in Timonium.

Services for Mr. Athas will be held at 11 a.m. tomorrow at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2504 Cub Hill Road.

Known as "Pop," he had helped his son at the Rhapsody Club on Old Annapolis Road in the 1950s and more recently at the Parkville club that is now the Club Martinique. It earlier was Maxwell's and the Club Venus.

He retired in the late 1940s after owning the Capitol Grill next to the Capitol Theater on West Baltimore Street.

Born George Athanasakos in Tarapsa, Greece, he came to this country in 1909.

His wife, the former Arhontoula Stratigakos, died in 1985.

He is survived by his son, Michael G. Athas of Timonium; a daughter, Cleopatra Stamidis of Timonium; a sister, Panagiota Vamvakiti of Rochester, N.Y.; and four grandchildren.
