Anita Nall, the 14-year-old Towson High freshman, made it 2-for-2 in the Phillips 66/U.S. Swimming Spring Nationals in Seattle.

In the process she was selected as the performer of the meet, which ended last night, by members of the media covering the five-day competition.

The North Baltimore Aquatic Club swimmer added the 100-meter breaststroke to her list of titles, winning the event Saturday in 1:09.83. Kelli King of the University of Arizona was second, four-tenths of a second behind.

Nall's time was less than a second off the U.S. record of 1:08.91 set by Tracey McFarlane in 1988 and the fourth fastest ever by an American. Behind McFarlane are Tracy Caulkins and Susan Johnson. The world record of 1:07.91 is held by East Germany's Silke Horner.

"When you're training for the 200, like Anita was, the 100 can be a significant adjustment," NBAC coach Murray Stephens said.

Nall broke the American record in the 200-meter breaststroke by 2.5 seconds in capturing the event in 2:27.08 Thursday. She will compete in both events in the Pan Pacific Games Aug. 22-25 in Edmonton, Canada.

Another NBAC swimmer, Brandy Wood, finished sixth in the 400 individual medley to qualify for the U.S. team that will compete in the Pan American Games Aug. 11-17 in Havana. She will spend two weeks in June in Hawaii at a camp designed for distance and IM swimmers.

The Retrievers Aquatic Club, directed by UMBC coach Sid Burkot, posted two top 16 finishes in women's relays. The 400 freestyle relay of Candie Johnson, Elysia Moreland, Jennifer Atkins and Cheryl White was eighth and the 800 freestyle unit of Moreland, Atkins, White and Cheryl Patteson was 14th.
