Dance concert will honor retiring dean

The Towson State University Dance Company will perform Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. and next Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall on Osler Drive. The program, dedicated to Gilbert A. Brungardt, who is retiring this summer as dean of Towson's College of Fine Arts and Communications, will feature seven premieres, including works by artistic director Susan Leslie Grubb and managing director Dennis Price.

The concert is designed for audiences of all ages. Tickets are $7 general admission; $5 for senior citizens, TSU faculty, staff and alumni; and $4 for students. For ticket information call 830-ARTS; for other information, call 830-2760. Trio America, the resident chamber ensemble at the University of Maryland Baltimore County, will present a free concert Thursday at 8 p.m. in the Fine Arts Recital Hall. The trio's members are violinist Jose Cueto, cellist Daniel Malkin and pianist Nancy Roldan. The program Thursday will include works by Mozart, Liszt, Beethoven and Baltimore composers Tom Benjamin and Elam Ray Sprenkel.

For more information, call 455-2942. It's not often one gets a chance to do good and have a good time. One such occasion comes Thursday evening at Meyerhoff Hall when singer Maureen McGovern will appear at a concert to benefit the Chesapeake AIDS Foundation.

Ms. McGovern, who will be accompanied by an orchestra conducted by William Henry Curry, is best known for her 1970s recordings of "The Morning After" and the "We May Never Love This Way Again" for the films "The Poseidon Adventure" and "The Towering Inferno," respectively.

Tickets for the concert, available at the Meyerhoff box office (783-8000), are $15-$40, with special tickets for $100 admitting ticket holders to a reception after the concert for Ms. McGovern. All proceeds from the tickets will be distributed to AIDS service organizations.
