Navy pilot Lt. Jeffrey N. Zaun, shot down Jan. 17 on a bombing run over southwestern Iraq during the Persian Gulf war, reviewed the firstdress parade of the year at the U.S. Naval Academy yesterday.

He also ate lunch in Bancroft Hall with the 3,500 midshipmen.

Zaun, 28, a former prisoner of war, was released by Iraq on March4.

An A6-E Intruder bombardier-navigator, Zaun graduated from theacademy in 1984 and entered flight school at Pensacola, Fla., the following year.

After earning his naval flight officer wings in 1986, he served

with Attack Squadron 35, based at the Naval Air Station in Oceana, Va.

After more than three years of service with the squadron, which is stationed aboard the aircraft carrier USS Saratoga,Zaun extended his tour shortly before being deployed to the Middle East.
