Free workshop on illustrating

THE BALTIMORE EVENING SUN

Floyd Cooper, who illustrated "Chita's Christmas Tree," a gorgeous book about one Baltimore family's Christmas, will be a featured guest at a daylong conference for young adults interested in the art of drawing and illustration.

Presented by the Enoch Pratt Free Library, the conference will be held Saturday, April 13, from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Pratt's Central Library. The free workshops are for middle school students or kids between the ages of 11 and 14.

Cooper will discuss career opportunities in the art world, from comic books to posters to book illustrations. Local cartoonists Jim Sizemore and Walt Carr will also present a workshop. The final member of the panel will be Jacqueline Woodson, who has written a young adult novel titled "Last Summer with Maizon." Participants should read the book before the workshop, so they can discuss it with her. The library will provide copies.

Pre-registration is required. For more information, call the Pratt's Office of Children and Youth at 396-5356.
