Emmanuel A. Di Paola, who owned a Timonium restaurant and had owned a Waverly nightclub, died yesterday of cancer at his home on Hemlock Court in Towson.

A Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Di Paola, who was 66, will be offered at 1 p.m. Monday at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Church, 101 Church Lane, Texas.

Known as Manny, he owned the Turf Inn, a restaurant on York Road in Timonium for 23 years. For 19 years before that, he owned Sweeney's, a nightclub on York Road in Waverly that he expanded, adding three bars and an entrance off 32nd Street.

He was friendly with celebrities, including Bob Hope, Ed Sullivan and Frank Sinatra, some of whom had come to his club.

Born in Baltimore, he was a graduate of Forest Park High School.

He is survived by his wife, JoAnn Di Paola; three sons, Dino, Anthony and Emmanuel A. Di Paola Jr., all of Cockeysville; two brothers, Raymond Di Paola of Parkton and Joseph Di Paola of Timonium; three sisters, Angela and Margaret Di Paola, both of Timonium, and Rose Bucklew of Baynesville; and two granddaughters.

The family suggested contributions to the American Cancer Society.
