Man fatally beaten, teen slain on streets Man hit with board; younger victim was shot.

An East Baltimore man was beaten to death a block from his home and a teen-ager was fatally shot in northwest Baltimore overnight, police reported.

In the East Baltimore slaying, Albert Moffatt, 51, of the 1600 block of E. Preston St., died early today from injuries he received when two or three men beat him with a board about two hours earlier, police said.

Police received a call to the 1100 block of McDonogh St. about 10:35 p.m. and found the victim unconscious in the street.

Moffatt was taken by ambulance to Johns Hopkins Hospital with severe wounds on the left side of his head and was pronounced dead about 12:35 a.m., police said.

Police later learned that two or three men had beaten the victim with a board.

Moffatt had no wallet on him, but his pockets had not been turned inside out in the manner of a robbery, police said.

In the second killing, Windel Wilson, 19, of the 4800 block of Poe Ave. in Pimlico, was shot twice about 1:40 a.m. while he was arguing or fighting with another man near Cottage and Park Heights avenues, police said.

Homicide detective David Brown said the other man drew a .22-caliber, six-shot revolver and fired at least two shots, hitting Wilson in the right hand and the neck.

The gunman dropped the weapon and fled.

Brown said Wilson turned and ran several yards to the front porch of a house in the 3600 block of Cottage Ave., where he banged on the front door and cried out for help.

When the occupants opened the door, Wilson fell dead in the doorway

The detective said Wilson was still wearing a gold chain around his neck and robbery has been ruled out as a motive.

Brown said a revolver was found at the scene.

Police said anyone with information that could help lead to the arrests of suspects in each case should call the homicide squad at 396-2100.
