McDonogh begins another Working era

McDonogh School today named alumnus Mike Working as varsity football coach, filling the vacancy created when Mike McMillan resigned over the winter.

Working, 43, was a 1966 graduate of McDonogh. He played quarterback under his father, Dick Working, who spent 21 seasons as head coach at McDonogh.

Mike Working most recently has been the offensive coordinator for the University of Tulsa. Previously, he had served as offensive coordinator at Wake Forest, head coach at Appalachian State and assistant coach and administrative coordinator for the Detroit Lions of the National Football League.

"I'm sure we can find something for Dad to do, scouting for example," said Working. He and his wife, Carole, will move back to Baltimore this summer, along with sons Michael, 15, and John, 13. They will attend McDonogh.

Michael Working played tight end and strong safety for the Oklahoma state Class 2A runner-up last fall. "Mike wants to play quarterback," said Working. "I think he'll likely play linebacker and we'll see where he can fit in on offense."
