"I like working with the mayor and the rest of the council," said Grimes, 76, the first to file for one of the three seats up for election on May 14. "I like the job and I have had it for 16 years."

Councilmen Terry Petry and Everett R. Ecker, whose terms also expire this year, have not yet filed. Any town resident, interested in acouncil position, must file with Election Judge Raymond C. Strine byApril 8.

A retired restaurant owner, Grimes said he has time to devote to the job and would continue as chairman of the street committee. He doesn't plan to do much campaigning, he added.

"The people here know me," he said. "If they want me to stay in the job, they will vote for me."
