In the Baltimore City Public Schools' 11th annual Citywide Black History Contest, Nefertiti Harmon of Western High School won first place, Kumasi Vines of Harlem Park Middle School second place and Kenya Brown of Dunbar High School third place.


William Gilreath of Glen Burnie won an overall award of excellence in a technical report writing competition sponsored by the Baltimore chapter of the Society for Technical Communication.


Six Harford Heights Elementary School students were awarded U.S. savings bonds and prizes recently for their winning essays and posters in the Women's History Month Contest, sponsored by the Baltimore City Commission for Women. Essay contest winners were Shannay Campbell, first place; Timere Monroe, second place; and Tiffany Chisholm, third place. Poster winners were Colin Perry, first place; Ebony James, second place; and Antwan Olive, third place.


Joyce Bucci, liaison art educator with the Baltimore County Board of Education, was awarded the Maryland Art Educator of the Year award.
