1991 ANNE ARUNDEL GIRLS LACROSSE AT A GLANCE

THE BALTIMORE SUN

Head coach: Carin Peterson (second season)

Assistants: Elaine Robertson and Colleen Corwell

1990 record: 15-0, Class 4A-3A state champions

Returnees: Seniors, Sonya Muhly (g), Hillary Kuker (att), Tanya Simmons (def), Dawn Gordon (att) and Tina Riley (def)

Newcomers: Senior, Holly Roessler (att); sophomore, Amy Carnaggio (mid); freshman, Erin Wylde (mid)

Coach's outlook: "They're not going to lay down and let people rollall over them. I personally won't let them do that. They have the talent to be there; they really do. It all depends on whether they can mature into their roles and play. They have the skill. We'll just have to see how far they can take it. With the young kids we have in now, and watching them play against Centennial and Severn in scrimmages, they looked good."

Anne Arundel County Sun's outlook: A lot of familiar faces departed Severna Park after last spring's state championship, leaving Peterson with three freshmen "and a whole mess of sophomores and a thin class of juniors." She'll miss Tami Riley's talent and leadership (ask basketball coach Kevin McGrath what her loss meansto a team). But Peterson also returns Muhly, who has manned the netsthe past two seasons. Toss in Kuker (25 goals) and Tina Riley, alongwith some promising newcomers, and the picture brightens considerably. Winners of 50 straight, this still is the team to beat, no matter the turnover in personnel. The Falcons are the early-season favorite to return to Catonsville Community College.
