SHOOTING: Northwestern District -- Police said Roger Aleong, 27, of the 5900 block of Fenwick Ave., was listed in critical condition today at the Shock-Trauma Unit in Baltimore after being shot at least once last night while in the 3000 block of Thorndale Ave. Police said officers, responding about 5 p.m. to a report of shots fired, found Aleong lying in the street bleeding from a gunshot wound of the head. Residents of the block told police they heard nearly a dozen shots being fired before they found the victim. Police said they had made no arrests in the case and that a motive for the shooting was not immediately known.

THEFT: Western District -- Daniel Burrell, of the 1300 block of N. Fulton Ave., reported that a man he knows stole a gold ring with diamonds he was wearing Wednesday in the 1100 block of N. Parrish St. Police said the ring was valued at more than $400 and that the suspect was being sought.

THEFT: Western District -- Anthony Johnson, of the first block of N. Fremont Ave., reported that someone entered his home and (( removed more than $300 in cash and a leather jacket.

BURGLARY: Western District -- A resident of the 2300 block of Eutaw Place reported that someone broke into his home this week and removed a VCR, a set of drums, a watch and a computer game, all valued at nearly $450.

BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- Police reported that someone broke into a dwelling in the 3300 block of Presstman St. and removed property valued at nearly $900.

BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- Police reported that someone kicked in a door and removed property valued at nearly $1,800 from the J&S; confectionery and grocery store in the 1800 block of Poplar Grove St.

BURGLARY: Southwestern District -- A resident of the 4200 block of Flowerton Road reported that someone broke into his home through a kitchen window and removed property valued at $600.

THEFT: Southern District -- Allen Snyder, of the 4300 block of Butler Road in Glyndon, northwestern Baltimore County, reported that while his car was parked in the 1300 block of Ramsay St., someone broke into it and removed a loaded, Italian-made, 9mm semiautomatic handgun and an extra clip of ammunition, all valued at about $600.

THEFT: Southern District -- Charles Stetts, of the 7100 block of Race Road in Hanover, Anne Arundel County, said his car was parked in the 1100 block of Carroll St. when someone broke into it through a window and removed two power saws, valued at more than $150.

ASSAULTS: Southern District -- Police were seeking several youths they believe were involved in two incidents of assault on South Stricker Street. Police said Wheeler Morris, of the 300 block of S. Stricker St., was attacked Wednesday night by several youths who struck him with sticks and caused minor injuries. Later that night, Michael Mullikin, of the 1400 block of McHenry St., was attacked by youths with sticks. Police said Mullikin was not seriously injured.

BURGLARY/ARREST: Central District -- Police responding to a burglar alarm at the city Department of Housing and Urban Development in the 1300 block of Druid Hill Ave. yesterday entered the building and arrested a man they believe was attempting to steal several pieces of property. Police said Officer Kenneth Driscoll reported that he arrested without incident a man who was about to leave with a typewriter, a wallet and an electric shaver. Charged with burglary, theft over $300 and malicious destruction of property was Carry Mattocks, of the 900 block of Argyle Ave. Police said Mattocks was being held at the police station pending a bail hearing before a District Court commissioner.

ROBBERY: Central District -- Nelson Oliver, of the 2400 block of Druid Hill Ave., reported he was in the 600 block of Pitcher St. early yesterday when he was accosted by a man with a handgun who took his cash and jewelry, all valued at more than $800.

THEFT: Central District -- Erik Krakau, of the 900 block of Wesley Road in Finksburg, Carroll County, reported that someone broke into his car Wednesday afternoon while it was parked in the 700 block of N. Charles St. and removed an electric guitar and the instrument's carrying case. Police said the property had a total value of $400.

THEFT: Central District -- Police reported that someone broke into a car parked in the 2200 block of Maryland Ave. this week and removed a cassette radio and tools used to erect dry walls. Steven Johns, an out-of-town resident and owner of the car, told police the property was valued at $400.

BURGLARY: Central District -- A resident of the 700 block of Newington Ave. reported that someone entered his home through an unlocked door and removed two 19-inch TV sets and a VCR, all valued at $800.

THEFT: Central District -- David Shapiro, an attorney, reported that while his car was parked near his apartment building in the 1100 block of St. Paul St., someone pried open a window of the vehicle and removed property valued at $200.

THEFT/ARREST: Central District -- Police arrested a man in the theft of a purse from Linda Evans, of the 2700 block of St. Paul St., while she was in the restroom of Buddy's Bar, in the 300 block of N. Charles St. yesterday evening. Evans reported the loss to police, who broadcast a description of the thief. Moments later, Officer Scott Ripley spotted a man who fit the description running south on Liberty Street and arrested him without incident. Police said the purse was recovered and Allen McKoy, 26, of the 5800 block of Judith Way, was charged with theft of property valued at less than $300. Police said McKoy was held overnight at the station lockup pending a bail hearing before a District Court commissioner.

ROBBERY: Northeastern District -- Delores St. Claire, of the 6000 block of Amberwood Road, reported she was in the 6200 block of Moravia Park Drive late Wednesday night when she was accosted by three men with boards who ordered her to give up her coat and money. Police said the woman was struck over the head and sustained scalp injuries before the men fled with $100. Police said they did not know whether the men took St. Claire's coat.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- Police reported that someone broke into the Progression Action Center, a day-care center in the 1400 block of Gorsuch Ave., but was frightened off when an employee spotted him. Police said the intruder entered through a basement door and fled without taking any property.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Employees of Al Packer Ford in the 5600 block of Belair Road reported that someone entered the property and removed a stereo radio and amplifier, valued at more than $450, from a vehicle.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- Police reported that someone broke into the Overlea Inn in the 6400 block of Belair Road through a rear window and stole $40 from the cash register and 20 packs of cigarettes.

ASSAULT: Northeastern District -- A U.S. Postal Service employee told police he was driving a mail truck in the 2100 block of 62nd St. yesterday when one of four men standing on the edge of the road pointed a handgun at him. Francis Warns, the driver, continued on and reported the incident to police a few moments later. Police said a search of the area failed to come up with the armed man or his companions.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Police responding to a shoplifting at the Ames department store in the 2500 block of Belair Road yesterday arrested a 26-year-old woman who attempted to leave without paying for medicine valued at more than $41. Police said the woman was being held at the women's detention center pending charges and a bail hearing before a District Court commissioner.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Anthony Adams, of the 1500 block of Fernley Ave., reported that someone entered the back yard of his home Wednesday or yesterday and stole a wheelchair of unknown value.

ROBBERY: Western District -- Nanette Arrington, of the 2200 block of Orem Ave., reported she was in the 1300 block of Winchester St. early yesterday when a man with a handgun robbed her of less than $20.

ROBBERY: Western District -- Connie Williams, of the 1000 block of Whatcoat St., reported she was walking in the 1400 block of Riggs Ave. around 1 a.m. yesterday when she was approached from behind by a man who grabbed her purse, which contained $30 and several packs of cigarettes.

THEFT OF GUN: Western District -- Murray Sanders, of the 2000 block of Penrose Ave., reported that someone entered his house Wednesday or yesterday and removed a .38-caliber stainless steel handgun, valued at nearly $380.

BURGLARY: Western District -- A resident of the 600 block of N. Carrollton Ave. reported that someone broke into his home by forcing the front door and removed stereo receiving and recording equipment and an AM-FM radio, all valued at $200.

BURGLARY: Western District -- Employees of a real estate firm ** reported that someone forced open the front door of a dwelling in the 2000 block of Edmondson Ave. and removed a heavy-duty hammer drill valued at $500.

BURGLARY: Western District -- A resident of the 1500 block of Vine St. reported that someone broke into his home by forcing a rear door yesterday morning and removed a VCR valued at nearly $170.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Alfreda Robinson, of the 8700 block of Cloudleap Court in Columbia, Howard County, reported that while her car was parked in the 4900 block of Belair Road, someone broke a window and removed a stereo radio.

Baltimore County

CHASE/ARREST: Towson District -- Police arrested a man who was injured early today when the stolen car he was driving crashed at Sinclair Lane near Washington Street in the city. Police said a Towson District officer spotted the stolen car in the 6200 block of York Road around 1 a.m. and followed it into the city. Several blocks later, the driver accelerated in an attempt to elude the officer, who radioed for assistance. During a chase that covered several miles, city police joined in. Police said the car went out of control on Sinclair Lane near Washington Street ** about 1:30 a.m. and crashed. They said the unidentified driver was taken to the University of Maryland Medical Center for treatment. Police said he was expected to be charged with auto theft and multiple traffic violations.

Anne Arundel County

ARREST: Annapolis -- Police arrested a third suspect in the shooting of a man at a pool hall last Nov. 29. Police said Gregory David Horne, 24, of the 2100 block of Willing Court in Pasadena, surrendered to city police. They said Horne, along with two other men, is charged with the attempted murder of Melvin Arnel Gatling, 20, of the first block of Farragut Court, who was shot four times and critically wounded. Police said Horne was being ++ held in the county detention center in lieu of $35,000 bond. Also charged with attempting to murder Gatling are Horne's brother, Anthony M. Horne, 30, and Ernest Boney, 18, both of the 200 block of Clay St. Police said Gatling was in a pool hall in the first block of Clay St. when he was shot. Fearing for his safety, police declined to say in which hospital Gatling is recovering.
