The Carroll County Sun has won two first-place awards in the Maryland-Delaware-DC Press Association 1990 Editorial Contest, Division C, weeklies with a circulation of over 12,000:
* "The American Dream - Is it Getting Out Of Reach?" a special issue on affordable housing Jan. 7. Winning first place for Best Series are reporters JoAnna Daemmrich, John A. Morris, Steve Groft, Adam Sachs and Jackie Powder (Of our sister paper; The Howard County Sun): columnist Susan White-Bowden, and Editor Edward H. Shur "Comprehensive reporting good writing, excellent mix of news and feature treatment," the judges said.
* "Teen Temptations' on May 13 on teen drug and alcohol problems, by reporters JoAnna Daemmrich, Maria Archangelo, Anne Haddad and Ed McDonough, "Well done - educate students as well as parents; good research," the judges said.
Also, reporter Daniel P. Clemans Jr. shared a Public Service first-place with his five former Harford County Sun colleagues for "Asbestos Dump at Gravel Hill."
The winners will be honored at a March 28 lunch.
