SHOOTING: Western District -- Anthony Bennett, of the 800 block of Lennox St., reported he was walking in the 2200 block of Pennsylvania Ave. early Sunday when a man stopped him, began arguing with him, pulled out a handgun and shot Bennett in the stomach, arm and leg. Bennett was listed in critical condition today at Maryland General Hospital.

ROBBERY: Southern District -- Thelma Courthouse, of the 700 block of Reedbird St. in Cherry Hill, reported she was walking in the 2700 block of Spelman Road yesterday afternoon when a man with a revolver robbed her of an undetermined amount of money.

ROBBERY: Southern District -- Ruth Letchin, of the 1700 block of W. Pratt St., told police she was walking in the 1800 block of W. Pratt St. early yesterday afternoon when a man ran up from behind and stole her purse.

THEFT: Southern District -- Employees of Fulton Auto Sales in the 1800 block of W. Pratt St. reported that someone entered company property over the weekend and stole equipment valued at $600 from a 1979 Cadillac.

ASSAULT: Southern District -- Shawn Rawlings, of the 2700 block of Spelman Road, reported he was in the 2800 block of Spelman Road shortly after 9 o'clock last night when a man fired several shots at him with a handgun, but the bullets missed. Later, police arrested Antonio Davis, 27, of the 700 block of Reedbird St., and charged him with assault with intent to murder and using a handgun in the commission of a felony. Davis was ordered held on $5,000 bail and was scheduled for a bail review hearing today in District Court.

ROBBERY: Northeastern District -- Police today are seeking a man and his female companion who robbed the Food Rite market in the Northwood Shopping Center in the 1500 block of Havenwood Road about 8 o'clock last night. The man handed a lottery machine clerk a note saying, "Give me money. If you holler I'll shoot," and she handed him about $400. Several customers were in the store, but most were unaware of the robbery.

ASSAULT: Central District -- Police arrested a 75-year-old man after he allegedly attacked a woman in the 1800 block of Pennsylvania Ave. yesterday and hit her in the head with a shovel. Martha Thompson, 31, of the 1400 block of Pennsylvania Ave., was treated at the University of Maryland Medical Center for a 4-inch gash. Charged with aggravated assault was Benjamin Brookins, 75, of the 1800 block of Pennsylvania Ave.

ROBBERY: Northeastern District -- Police were seeking two females who robbed a clerk at the High's dairy store in the 3200 block of Belair Road of several cartons of cigarettes worth $70 after threatening the clerk with a long-bladed knife about 7 o'clock last night.

BURGLARY: Central District -- A resident of the 2300 block of Linden Ave. reported that someone forced open a rear door at her home and stole several pieces of property of unknown value.

BURGLARY: Central District -- Police reported that someone broke into a dwelling in the 2600 block of Maryland Ave. through an unlocked window and stole more than $100.

ROBBERY: Central District -- A Royal cab driver reported he was seated in his parked cab in the first block of W. Pratt St. early yesterday when two men, one with a handgun, robbed him of an undisclosed amount of money.

BURGLARY: Central District -- Stereo receiving and recording equipment of unknown value was stolen from a dwelling in the 700 block of St. Paul St. after someone forced open a door.

ROBBERY: Central District -- Latonya Johnson, of the 2400 block of Edmondson Ave., reported that two men robbed her of $900 worth of jewelry after they accosted her in the 800 block of Linden Ave. last weekend.

BREAK-IN: Central District -- Employees of the Stock Exchange in the first block of S. Charles St. reported that someone broke into the business over the weekend and stole a piggy bank containing $75 in coins and stole $75 from a cash register.

ROBBERY: Central District -- John McClung, of the 1300 block of St. Paul St., reported he was in the 300 block of St. Paul St. early yesterday when a man attacked him, pushed him to the pavement and robbed him of a leather carrying bag containing cash and other pieces of property, all valued at $70.

ROBBERY: Central District -- Theresa Wharton, of the 1600 block of N. Smallwood St., was walking in the 100 block of E. North Ave. when she was approached from behind by a man who stole her purse containing two money orders valued at more than $400.

THEFT: Central District -- Employees of the American Urological Association in the 1100 block of N. Charles St. reported that someone entered the office yesterday and stole more than $100 from an unlocked metal box.

THEFT: Central District -- Azetta Johnson, of the 1200 block of Druid Hill Ave., reported that someone entered her apartment over the weekend and stole an $800 television set and a set of gold earrings valued at $200.

THEFT: Central District -- Karen Yarbrough, of the 3600 block of Clydesdale Road, reported that someone broke into her parked car in the 100 block of W. North Ave. and stole cash and food stamps, all valued at more than $200.

THEFT: Central District -- Officials of the city Housing Authority in the 400 block of E. Fayette St. reported that someone entered an office and stole more than $100 from a secured area.

THEFT: Central District -- Gary Jurak, of the 3800 block of McDowell Lane in Baltimore Highlands, reported that someone broke into his parked car in the first block of W. Pleasant St. and stole an electric saw valued at $200.

THEFT: Central District -- William Elliott, of the 1800 block of Chilton St., told police that someone broke into his parked car in the 100 block of Concord St. and stole property valued at nearly $140.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- A resident of the 4800 block of Pleasant View Ave. reported that someone broke into his home through a side basement window and stole more than $2,400 from the bedroom.

THEFT: Western District -- William Pope, of the 1600 block of McKean Ave., reported that someone entered his house yesterday evening and stole a TV and a VCR, together valued at more than $500. He suspects an acquaintance.

BURGLARY: Western District -- A resident of the 2200 block of Madison Ave. reported that someone broke into his home yesterday evening and removed a 13-inch TV. Police said the TV was valued at nearly $200.

ROBBERY: Western District -- Charles Barrett, of the 2100 block of Ashburton St., reported he was walking in the 2000 block of W. North Ave. last evening when a man with a handgun stopped him and robbed him of cash, his watch and his coat, all valued at more than $200.

ROBBERY: Western District -- Police reported that Valerie Gant, of the 5400 block of Gist Ave., was walking in the 2800 block of Harlem Ave. around 5 p.m. yesterday when a male acquaintance accosted her, displayed a handgun and robbed her of $70.

ROBBERY: Northeastern District -- Floyd Benton, 19, of the 2800 block of Harford Road, told police he was walking in the 2700 block of Hugo Ave. late Sunday night when two men, one with a handgun, robbed him an electronic beeper, a gold ring, a watch and cash, all valued at more than $500.

THEFT/ARRESTS: Northeastern District -- Police arrested two men and charged them with the theft of a table and a cooler, together valued at more than $200, from the front porch at the home of Laura Tipton in the 2800 block of Kildare Road. Richard White, 20, and Robert Cowden, 20, both of the 2600 block of Chesley Ave., were being held pending a bail hearing.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Employees of Al Packer Jeep/Eagle dealership in the 5800 block of Belair Road reported that someone entered the new car lot and stole an AM-FM cassette radio and compact disc player from a 1991 Mitsubishi. The equipment was valued at more than $1,600.

BURGLARY: Northeastern District -- A resident of the 4200 block of Loch Raven Blvd. reported that someone forced open a door at his home and stole two VCRs, valued at nearly $300.

THEFT: Northeastern District -- Paul Kryglik, of the 2900 block of Pinewood Ave., reported that someone stole $150 worth of furniture from his front porch.

Baltimore County

ESCAPE ATTEMPT: Towson District -- Police said they expected to charge an inmate of the county detention center with destruction of property and attempting to escape after his cell was set on fire. Police said a guard on patrol outside the jail in the 400 block of Kenilworth Drive noticed smoke and flames coming from a third-floor cell about 7 o'clock last night. Police said officers rushed to the area and extinguished a fire that damaged a window. A 25-foot length of bed sheeting tied in sections and several sharp pieces of metal were found in the cell. Police said the inmate, Robert Hof, 37, was to be charged later today.

BREAK-IN: Towson District -- Police said someone broke into Calico Corners in the 300 block of York Road between Sunday evening and yesterday morning by forcing a side door after breaking an outside security light. The intruder stole an undetermined amount of money from a cash register and attempted to steal a safe.

BURGLARY: Brooklyn -- A resident of the 5000 block of Ritchie Highway reported that someone forced open a rear door at his home and stole stereo receiving and recording equipment valued at $8,000.

BURGLARY: Glen Burnie -- Someone broke into a dwelling in the 1000 block of Little Baer Court through a rear basement door and stole a video camera, cash and jewelry, all valued at more than $4,200.

BURGLARY: Linthicum -- Cash and jewelry valued at nearly $3,200 was stolen from a dwelling in the 300 block of E. Maple Road after someone broke through a rear basement door.
