Stanley C. Dillon, Carroll County Sun motorsports writer, won two awards from the Eastern Motorsports Press Association for articles he wrote last year.
Dillon won first place for race coverage by a weekly reporter for his Sept. 16 column, "Demolition Derby gives cars final mission: destruction." The story chronicled the performance of two Taneytown men, Kenny Hommerbocker and Bernie DeGroft, in a demolition derby at the Kingsdale (Pa.) Fire Company carnival grounds.
He also earned a second-place award for a feature story by a weekly reporter for his Nov. 18 column, "Grass drags promise a roaring good time." It previewed the snowmobile grass drags, also at Kingsdale, and talked a little about Manchester dairy farmer Norman Sellers, who organizes the races.
A long-time fan of motorsports in the mid-Atlantic area, Dillon began writing weekly columns for The Carroll County Sun last May. His column appears each Sunday, and results from area tracks and previews of upcoming races are in the Wednesday edition.
