Skipjacks add Reynolds and Hrivnak

The Baltimore Skipjacks will play the second game of a six-game, 12-day, 3,000-mile American Hockey League trip tonight with two new faces in the lineup at the Springfield (Mass.) Civic Center against the Springfield Indians.

Baltimore acquired left wing Bobby Reynolds, 23, (24 goals, 22 assists in 65 games) Tuesday from the Newmarket Saints for defenseman Rob Mendel. Goalie Jim Hrivnak has been returned from the Washington Capitals, where he shared the goaltending with Mike Liut while Don Beaupre was out with a pulled groin muscle.

The Skipjacks also could have left wing Bob Joyce, who has been out with a concussion, back for tomorrow's game in the Hersheypark Arena against the Bears on Frank Mathers Night. Mathers, coach for 17 seasons and now president and general manager at Hershey, will retire after this season.

Reggie Savage, who has been out of action for a month with a pulled groin muscle, hoped to be back in action during this trip, but will not return until the Skipjacks' next home game, March 16, against the Cape Breton Oilers.

"My leg feels much better," said Savage. "But you have to do what the doctor says and not rush it. I'm going skate every day while the team is away and be ready for the stretch run. I want to get back to playing very badly. There is not much worse that sitting around and waiting for an injury to heal."

Right wings Jeff Greenlaw and Tim Bergland are both on recall with the Washington Capitals who play in Winnipeg, Manitoba, tonight and in Edmonton, Alberta, Sunday.

To make room for Hrivnak, the Skipjacks have returned goalie Olaf Kolzig to the Hampton Roads Admirals of the East Coast Hockey League. The ECHL playoffs begin next week.

The Skipjacks' playoff roster: Goalie -- Jim Hrivnak, Shawn Simpson. Defense -- Joel Quenneville, Ken Lovsin, Kent Paynter, Jim Mathieson, Mark Ferner, Bobby Babcock, Jiri Vykoukal and Chris Felix (in residence). Right wing -- Reggie Savage, Thomas Sjogren, Jeff Greenlaw (with Washington) and John Purves. Center -- Alfie Turcotte, Tyler Larter, Rob Murray and Tim Taylor. Left wing -- Todd Hlusko, Steve Seftel, Steve Maltais, Bob Joyce, and Bobby Reynolds. With Hampton Roads -- Olaf Kolzig (goalie), Harry Mews (center) and Victor Gervais (center).
