First prize in the "officers-with-the-grandest-titles" contest goes to the Severna Park Elks Lodge, which recently elected its slate: exalted ruler Theodore Gerst, esteemed leading knight Harold Sipe, esteemed loyal knight Robert Hearn, esteemed lecturing knight Michael Calo, five-year trustee Robert Rupert, treasurer J. Burnell Lynch, secretary Oren Craig and tiler Sam Mills.

The Elks also dedicated their new 4000-square-foot members building on Truckhouse Road. The structure, which was five years in the making, contains a 120-seat lounge, agame room, restrooms, an office and a kitchen for serving light meals. Offices will be placed on the lower level.

Through hard work and diligent fund raising, the Ladies of the Elks provided furnishings for the new lounge, a walk-in refrigerator and a walk-in freezer.

Building committee members were: Dennis Grap,chairman, Richard O'Hara, Dean Evans, Richard Vaden, Ernest Bahler, Pete Street and Norman Turley.

The lounge will be open to members and guests from 3 to 11:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 3 p.m. to midnight Friday and Saturday and 2 to 10 p.m. on Sunday.


Last week, at the Severna Park Jaycees' Fabulous '50s party, we danced the soles off our blue suede shoes. Later this month, we can sit back andlet others do the work while we enjoy the music of Severna Park HighSchool's second annual Rock and Roll Revival.

The revival, sponsored by the senior class, takes place at 8 p.m. at the school on Friday and Saturday, March 15 and 16, and March 22 and 23.

A cast of 100, directed by drama coach Thomas McKown, will sing, dance and play the night away in this "finger-poppin', groovy kinda show." That's a direct quote from McKown, who said that 200 students auditioned, and half of those were left broken-hearted outside the stage door.

For those who enjoy revenge, there will be six numbers by the faculty.

When you have finished your annual spring cleaning and are admiring the results, you may decide that a little something is still missing: a special final touch for your favorite room.

Hundredsof spring craft items will be on display at the sixth annual Falcon Athletic Boosters Club Craft Show at the high school from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.

Co-chairwoman Bonnie Eliff ticked off many of theitems that will be for sale: country wood, fabric jewelry, appliquedand painted sweat shirts, stuffed dolls and animals, dried flowers, figurines, tole painting and knitted and crocheted sweaters. One itemcertain to be popular is homemade Easter candy.

The Boosters willprovide refreshments in the morning and lunch later on.

All proceeds will benefit the work of the Boosters, which provides uniforms and equipment for many of the school's teams and handles the outdoor refreshment stand.


The Woods Memorial Presbyterian Church senior choir, under the direction of Ann Cooper, will present Beethoven's Mass in C at 7 p.m. Sunday.

The choir will have an orchestral accompaniment for this powerful and moving composition.


If you live in the Park and have children, you've probably attended one of theproductions of the Children's Theatre of Annapolis.

Shows are presented twice a year at the Pascal Theatre on the campus of Anne Arundel Community College.

The spring production of "The Wizard of Oz,"on March 15 to 17 and 22 to 24, will feature, in its cast of 30, five Severna Park residents: Stacy Schwartz, Pam Diedrich and Windy Meagher from the high school and Tara Jewett and Tara Taylor from Severna Park Middle School.

Performances are at 7 p.m. Fridays and 2 p.m.Saturdays and Sundays.

Tickets for all shows are $5, with a special rate of $4.50 for groups of 20 or more. All seats are reserved andmay be ordered by mail.

Severna Park has its share of art auctions, but Arundel Hospice has added a touch of elegance -- a string quartet -- to its usual array of door prizes and delicious refreshments at its art show and auction March 16.

The event will take place in the cafeteria at Anne Arundel Community College.

The art preview begins at 7 p.m., with the auction scheduled for 8 p.m. Refreshments include tables of cheese, fresh fruit with dip, and coffee and desserts from the upcoming Arundel Hospice cookbook.

The sale benefits Arundel Hospice, a non-profit agencyfor the care of terminally ill patients and their families.

The Severna Park Newcomers Club will have its March meetingand luncheon at 11:30 a.m. March 20 at the Hidden Cove Restaurant on Jones Station Road.

The guest speaker will be Dr. Jack Frost, whose specialty is plastic and reconstructive surgery. All but the youngest and firmest in the audience will no doubt be inspired by his medical discussions and his collection of before-and-after photos.

For$13.50, you may choose from a menu that includes shrimp stuffed withcrab meat, breast of chicken oregano, or filet mignon with bearnaisesauce and all the trimmings, tax and gratuity included. There will be a cash bar.

The Newcomers Club, always in the forefront of fun and friendship, offers awarm welcome to anyone new to greater Severna Park. Regular meetingsare scheduled the third Wednesday of each month, September through May.

Dues of $12 provide members with a dozen interest groups from which to choose, including antiques, bird watches, book club, bridge,tennis and cooking.

Invitations are in the mail to Great Expectations VI, Severn School's annual fund-raising event, this year on Saturday, April 13 at Loews Annapolis Hotel on West Street.

The evening will begin at 6:30 with complimentary cocktails in the atrium and continue in the ballroom with a chamber concert by the Annapolis Symphony Orchestra.

Sue Neely, who heads the dinner committee, says that following the concert, a delicious four-course meal will be served, beginning with chilled creamy cucumber soup and moving on to grilled filet of salmon and tenderloin of beef with roasted peppercorns. For dessert, there'll be raspberry chocolate cheesecake.

A small auction of 10 special items will follow dinner.

Whether or not you have a student at Severn, everyone is welcome to thisgala affair, one of the social events of the season.
