8 NOMINATED FOR PANEL

Eight people have been nominated for a task force that will revamp the East Main Street reconstruction plan.

Mayor W. Benjamin Brown announced the nominees last week.

The nominees are: Thomas B. Beyard, city planning director; JamesH. Billingslea, William B. Dulaney, and Thomas S. Gordon Jr., Main Street business owners; Jay Graybeal, Historical Society of Carroll County curator; Jay S. Nusbaum, chief of Volunteer Fire Company No. 1; Rebecca Orenstein, TreeAction representative; and Neil Ridgely, city tree commission.

The list was submitted to Maryland Department of Transportation Secretary O. James Lighthizer, who will draw from the nominees to form the panel. The secretary also will make appointmentsto the task force, planned to be composed of 12 to 14 members.

The City Council decided to revisit the project after citizen grumblingover plans to widen a portion of the street to 40 feet. The $2.8 million reconstruction will be paid for by the state.
