The Sun sports section has been named one of the 10 best Sunday sports section in the annual Associated Press Sports Editors contest.
In addition to the section award, Bill Glauber and Mike Littwin of The Sun sports staff were honored. Glauber is one of the 10 finalists in the Enterprise category for his series on the Baltimore Elite Giants of the Negro Leagues. Littwin is one of the 10 finalists in the Columnist category. First- through fifth-place awards in the writing categories will announced in late March. Littwin has finished in the top five the past two years. Glauber twice previously has earned awards in the Event coverage category.
The other winners in the top 10 for Best Sunday Sports Sections for newspapers with circulations of more than 175,000 were: the Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, Dallas Morning News, Newsday, Atlanta Constitution-Journal, Miami Herald, Detroit News, Louisville Courier-Journal and Washington Post.
The Evening Sun placed in the top 10 in the Special Section category for newspapers with circulations from 50,000 to 175,000 for its section on Jim Palmer and his entry into the Hall of Fame. Also, Mike Klingaman of The Evening Sun is a finalist in the Enterprise category for 50,000 to 175,000 circulation.
The APSE awards are the most prestigious national awards for sports writing and sports sections.
