Goucher College yesterday dedicated its new, $7 million Sports and Recreation Center.
The 50,000-square-foot athletic faciility, in the works for more than a decade, features a basketball floor large enough for roll-back bleachers on either side and provides ample room for intramural activities.
The gym's high ceiling provides an expansiveness unseen in its predecessor, the Lilian Welsh Gymnasium, which sits next door to the new facility.
The center also houses racquetball and squash courts, training and weight rooms, locker rooms, classrooms and offices.
Outside, it has a fieldstone facade similar to other campus buildings.
Speakers at yesterday's ceremonies, which also dedicate Goucher's Robert and Jane Meyerhoff Arts Center, included college president Rhoda Dorsey Representative Tom McMillen, D-Md.-4th, and Douglas Dodge, chairman of Goucher's board of trustees.
