Coppin State in final UMES ousted MEAC women


NORFOLK, Va. -- Forward Yvette Larkins scored 18 points and grabbed 17 rebounds yesterday, as Coppin State took the lead with 1 minute, 30 seconds left and held on for a 58-55 victory over South Carolina State (20-10) to move into the final of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference championship at The Scope.

The Eagles (18-8), seeded fifth, will face second-seeded North Carolina A&T; today at 4:30 p.m. for the title. The Aggies defeated the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in the other semifinal, 65-54.

In the second game, UMES (16-13) never recovered from a 34-24 halftime deficit against North Carolina A&T; (22-7). The teams shot a combined 6-for-82 from three-point range.
