Margaret D. Thomas Lutherville volunteer


A memorial service for Margaret D. Thomas, who once served as executive secretary for the Girl Scouts in Prince George's County and more recently did volunteer work in Lutherville, will be held at 12:45 p.m. April 21 at the First Unitarian Church, Franklin and Charles streets.

Mrs. Thomas, who had spent half of each year in Lutherville and the other half in Fargo, N.D., since 1982, died of heart failure Dec. 17 at a Fargo hospital. She was 86.

She lived in Cheltenham and held the Prince George's County post from 1941 until 1948. After 1982, she worked as a volunteer in the library of the Ridgely Middle School.

The former Margaret Dennis was a native of Kansas City, Mo., who was reared there before completing her high school education in Bethany, Neb., where she was a 1928 graduate of Cotner College.

She had worked as secretary to the president of the University of Nebraska and taught business school courses. She also had been an executive secretary of the Girl Scouts in Jackson, Mich., and a full-time secretary of the Central Christian Church in Indianapolis.

Her husband, Vance E. Thomas, a retired corrections official, died in 1973.

She is survived by two daughters, Lauralee Humphrey of Lutherville and Beverly Brkic of Fargo; five grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
