Local group due to make Cup bid


Maryland, Virginia and the District of Columbia, all part of a regional combine, will formally present their bid to host part of the 1994 World Cup soccer tournament today.

Included in the bid by the regional group is a request by Baltimore to host the FIFA Congress, the three-day international meeting that precedes the World Cup games, and a request that the University of Maryland-College Park campus be a designated training site.

A briefing on the bid was to held today in Washington, under the direction of John Koskinen, chairman of the Venue Bid Committee and co-owner of the Maryland Bays professional soccer team.

Scott LeTellier, chief operating officer for the World Cup USA 1994 Organizing Committee, will officially receive the bid.
