Harry Kany, a retired inspector with federal agencies who was active in Ukrainian community affairs, died Feb. 2 at Union Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. The Cub Hill resident was 75.

Mr. Kany, a native of Auburn, N.Y., attended public schools and three years at the Chicago School of Accounting before joining the Security Exchange Commission as an accountant in 1936.

He held jobs with the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., Internal Revenue Service and U.S. Treasury before retiring from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms in 1978.

Mr. Kany served in the Philippines in World War II as a maintenance operations sergeant with the 13th Army Air Corps B-24 squadron.

He married the former Anne Poliszuk of Baltimore in 1945.

Mr. Kany was national president of the League of Ukrainian Catholics in the U.S., co-chairman of the Ukrainian group for the I Am An American Day Parade and a member of the Knights of Columbus and St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church.

He served on the governor's commission to care for displaced Europeans after World War II.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, Timothy, of Baltimore; a sister, Dorothy Juli, of Auburn, N.Y.; a brother, Steven Kany, of Auburn, N.Y.; and two grandchildren.

The family suggests that contributions be made to St. Michael's Ukrainian Catholic Church Building Fund, 2401 Eastern Ave., Baltimore 21224.

A Mass of Christian burial for Mr. Kany was offered Feb. 6 at St. Michael's.
