* WRAPUP: The Thunder's winning streak was snapped at four by the Detroit Turbos, 22-14, Saturday before 8,367 at Joe Louis Arena. Paul Gait scored five goals to raise his Major Indoor Lacrosse League-leading total to 35; twin brother Gary added three.
"The Gaits are in another world," said Thunder general manager Darrell Russell. "I don't know how New York beat Detroit. The Saints tried to shut off the Gaits from the ball, and apparently succeeded. We also tried to, but it didn't work. I told Tom Wright, Detroit's general manager, that even if we wind up in the championship game against them, I don't know if we could win. He said we could if we stopped the Gaits."
The Thunder, still in first place in the American Division with a 4-3 record, was led by Pat Welsh and John Nostrant (four goals each). Jeff Gombar, worn down by the pummeling by the Gaits, left the game midway through the third quarter with the Turbos ahead, 11-7, and was replaced by Tom Manos.
Don Borges scored three goals and goalie Sal LoCascio was named MVP in the New York Saints' 12-8 win over the New England Blazers yesterday.
