The Washington Capitals have lost goalie Don Beaupre for today's National Hockey League game with the Pittsburgh Penguins at the Capital Centre.
Beaupre suffered a slightly pulled groin muscle in Friday's 3-2 victory over the New York Rangers, in which he made 28 saves. He also could miss tomorrow's game with the New Jersey Devils at the Meadowlands Arena in East Rutherford, N.J. Beaupre is expected back for Wednesday's game with the Rangers at Madison Square Garden.
Center Peter Bondra, out more than two weeks with a shoulder injury, will be available for today's game.
Jim Hrivnak has been recalled from the Baltimore Skipjacks of the American Hockey League to back up goalie Mike Liut in Beaupre's absence. Hrivnak was 4-1-0 with a 3.04 goals-against average in a previous stint with the Capitals.
Beaupre (14-15-2) started 11 of the past 12 Capitals games, and is one of the leading goalies in the NHL with a 2.89 GAA.
Hrivnak (14-12-4, 3.18 GAA) started 21 of Baltimore's past 23 games, and made 27 saves in the Skipjacks' 2-2 tie with the Rochester Americans Friday. Olaf Kolzig (9-10-1, 3.18 GAA) was recalled from the Hampton Roads Admirals of the East Coast Hockey League to share the Baltimore goaltending with Shawn Simpson (6-4-0, 4.87 GAA).
