Homemade soups, healthy chef salads, all-American cheeseburgers and spiced-to-order Buffalo Wings are some of the palate-pleasing choices on Cockey's unpretentious menu.

Tucked in a turn-of-the-century iron building just blocks from Camden Yards and Lexington Market, Cockey's warm wooden bar in the front or its dining-hall atmosphere in the back are perfect for an unhurried lunch on a wintry afternoon. But if you prefer, Cockey's chef can make your order to go.

The prices are as unpretentious as the menu, with the most expensive entree being the 16-inch Kitchen Sink pizza for $13.60. Most items cost less than $5. And all sandwiches, including the Ham Club, Turkey Club and Tuna Melt, come with chips on the side.

Cockey's salads include Caesar, chef, tuna and garden. The Chef Salad is by far the most generous, offering a bed of lettuce covered with ham, cheese, turkey, tomatoes, carrots, radishes, onions, cucumbers and your choice of dressings.

Cockey's also serves a variety of freshly baked desserts, and the dessert menu changes daily.

Of course, the specials also change daily, and such Baltimore delicacies as Lake Trout and crab cakes have been spotted among the choices.
