Michael McKoy's jumper at the buzzer gave No. 17 Carver (12-3, 8-1) a 75-73 victory over visiting Edmondson, clinching first place in the Maryland Scholastic Association B Conference Division I yesterday.
After Edmondson (12-5, 7-3) had turned the ball over with 30 seconds remaining in regulation, the Bears worked the clock down to six seconds. McKoy attempted a jumper that caromed off the rim to the right, but he quickly picked up the rebound and hit a five-footer for the victory.
Elsewhere, Forest Park (12-5, 8-2) captured first place in Division II of the conference with an 87-81 victory over visiting Northern. Eric Bazemore led the Foresters with 29 points, 13 assists and 12 rebounds.
Forest Park finished tied with Mervo (11-5, 8-2) for the Division II lead. The MSA's first criterion in tie-breakers is head-to-head competition, and Forest Park defeated Mervo twice this year, winning the regular-season title.
Carver, the defending conference champion, will host Mervo in a semifinal game Tuesday or Wednesday. Edmondson will visit Forest Park in the other semifinal game.
Melissa Cuneo scored 15 points, as visiting Seton Keough (15-4, 6-2) defeated Spalding (14-10, 4-4), 60-38, to win the Catholic League's A Division.
