No VFW highway on I-83
The House Ways and Means Committee yesterday killed a bill to rename a section of Interstate 83 from the Baltimore Beltway to the state line for the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The committee rejected the idea by a vote of 17 to 4. The bill sought to have 23 miles of I-83 designated as Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial Parkway.
The State Highway Administration recommended that the committee reject the bill because of its cost -- $50,000 for two signs -- and because Maryland already has a highway designated for veterans. Interstate 81 in Washington County is jTC known as Maryland Veterans Memorial Highway.
